Welcome to motherhood

I can't believe that Jacob is already a month old.  This last month has been absolutely crazy! And by crazy I mean emotionally and physically exhausting.  I never realized how hard having a new born really was.  All of my friends with kids made it look so easy.  Especially Auntie Jenna, aka Life According to the Streets.  I guess your friends never really tell you the dirty details so that you don't reconsider having children of your own. :-)

After we came home from the hospital, we were fortunate enough to have my mom staying with us for another week!  She helped us cook, clean, and take care of baby when we got frustrated.  We realized after a couple of days that Jacob had colic.  Poor guy would just scream and scream and we didn't know what was going on. Being new parents of a screaming baby can be extremely exhausting. Thank goodness for my mom...she would take him overnight in the recliner in the living room and rock him for hours.  THANK YOU MOM!!  I was definitely a bit emotional when my mom left to go back to AZ because it was just Andy and I, and Andy was back at work already.  But we have been managing quite well I would say. Andy is so wonderful to relieve me when he comes home from work, even if it's just for an hour so that I can take a shower. :-)

Even with all the emotions and lack of sleep, this has been the most wonderful month of my life.  Jacob is such a joy and I love watching him grow and learn new things everyday.  He has recently started to smile which totally makes my day.  His whole face lights up and it melts my heart!  His favorite time of day is bath time! He loves, loves, loves the water!  He lays there with one foot in the water and just relaxes the whole time.  Now getting out of the tub is a totally different story, but who likes to be cold when getting out of the shower? Not me!  He would also love to suck his thumb if he could.  He gets closer and closer everyday, but still does not have complete control of his hands and arms.  We're rooting for you buddy!  I guess the pacifier will have to do for now.  We are so proud of him everyday. He is holding his head up on his own for the most part and kicks his legs harder than anything I have every felt! I think he is going to be a swimmer with loving the water and those strong legs!  The next Michael Phelps ladies and gentlemen!  His favorite time of day may be bath time, but mine is cuddle time!  He is such a cuddle bug and I love it!  He loves to take naps on my chest as well as Daddy's.  He curls up so tight and just nuzzles his head in.  I hope that he always stays so cuddly!

We are very excited to be sharing him the next two weeks with our friends and family in Arizona! Let's hope that he can learn some skills for his cousins Dallas and Griffin!

We can't wait to see what the next month has in store for our little Jacob!
